About the Author

Kris’s lifelong love of reading began when she was a little girl. She pledged to read all the books in the children’s section at the public library, starting with authors whose last names begin with “Z” since those were on the bottom shelf and easiest for her to reach. Though Kris didn’t succeed in that quest, she remains a passionate reader, and typically finishes several fiction books each week.

Kris has been honored for her leadership in advocacy for children by the California Legislature and Governor’s office and is the recipient of the 2022 American Academy of Pediatrics Child Advocate Award. In Kris’s books, there are crimes to solve and murderers to catch – these are, after all, mysteries and thrillers – but no harm comes to children.

Among her numerous writing honors, Kris has received Silver Falchion National Literary Awards for Best First Novel, Best Political Thriller and Best Female PI/Sleuth, joining past awardees that include Sue Grafton, Dean Koontz, and Ann Perry.

Fund-a-Need: Financial Literacy Programs at the Library

Many young people will enter adulthood without the essential financial knowledge and skills they need to make informed choices about their money. Consider this: Young Americans owe over $1 trillion in debt, and 70% of millennials live paycheck to paycheck. These alarming statistics highlight an urgent need for financial education among young people. Early-adulthood financial decisions can have lifelong consequences. Equipping young people with the tools to manage their money effectively helps them avoid the cycle of debt and economic insecurity that plagues many Americans well into adulthood, giving them the foundation to build a secure financial future.

This year’s successful Fund-a-Need auction will provide financial literacy programming for 1,000 young people at the Library’s 13 branches. Our goal is $15,000. Can you help?
